Greater Cincinnati’s thriving wine and dining scene takes another step forward this week as Chef Nick Wahle comes to Piccolo Wine Room/Village Wines of Glendale to serve as Head Chef. Chef Nick has spent the past 6 years working as a Sous-Chef; the past 3 years at 20 Brix in Milford, and 3 years prior at Honey in Northside. Chef will be bringing a new, fresh menu to Piccolo with most ingredients coming from small, local purveyors. “The fresher the ingredients, the better the food, and I love to be able to support the local food scene”, said Nick Wahle.
Piccolo Wine Room has been in existence for 6 years, and is a quaint spot located in the square in Glendale. With meat and cheese boards Tuesday through Saturday and a more extensive menu Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Piccolo has received many accolades in both the Enquirer and CityBeat for its food and drink, serving wines by glass or by the bottle – bottle selections can be made from our extensive retail store, Village Wines – as well as a growing list of craft beers.
“We are thrilled to have attracted such a young, imaginative chef like Nick”, said Kate Eberlein, owner of Village Wines and Piccolo, “and we look forward to having Nick create menu items that pair well with wines we are tasting.”
Chef Nick is a native Cincinnatian and studied at the Midwest Culinary Institute at Cincinnati State. “Piccolo is a wonderful “local” establishment and to bring in a chef that grew up here, studied and honed his craft here is really special”, said Julia Piazza Porter, Manager of Piccolo. “We are also excited to have found a chef who has created “beer dinners”, drawing on the nuances of craft beers and pairing them with foods”, Porter adds.
Chef Nick Wahle’s first night in the kitchen is Thursday, July 7th. Full food-service is Thursday through Saturday, with special food events and pop-up dinners happening throughout the year.
Village Wines and Piccolo Wine Room are located at 23 Village Square in Glendale. Piccolo has limited seating inside, but has an open patio for dining outdoors, as well as overflow seating in the Village Wines retail store. Piccolo is open Tuesday through Thursday 3 p.m. until 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 3 p.m. until 11 p.m.
